SWIMMING PROGRAMME CRITERIA

 

1)Frogs Class (5 meters): 

Time range: 12-24 lessons*

Mandatory skills:

  • Understanding of basic pool rules 
  • Blow bubbles (with the mounth underwater)
  • Face in the water with confidence
  • Star Float on the front with or without teacher support
  • Star Float on the back with or without teacher support
  • Kick 5m with the board on front with face in the water
  • Kick 5m with the board on the back (with pointed toes)
  • Make a supervised jump to pool with or without support

 

Additional skills:

  • Doggie paddle
  • Doggie paddle arm action while sitting on the woggle

 

2)Penguins Class (10 meters): 

Time range: 12-24 lessons*

Mandatory skills:

  • Confident around water (deep end)
  • Float on back without support (5 sec)
  • Float on the front without support (5 sec)
  • Front Crawl leg kick for 10m in streamline position
  • Back Crawl leg kick for 10 m
  • Blow bubbles while swimming
  • Push and glide on front and back
  • Doggie paddle

 

Additional skills:

  • Front Crawl and Back Crawl arms with float
  • Breaststroke arms while sitting on the woggle
  • Jump into water unaided

 

3)Seals Class (15 meters): 

Time range: 12-36 lessons*

Mandatory skills:

  • Streamlined push and glide on front and back
  • Back Crawl legs without aid for 15m
  • Back Crawl arms without aid for 15m
  • Front Crawl legs without aid for 15m
  • Front Crawl arms without aid for 15m
  • Kicking sideways with the board and straight legs
  • Sitting dive
  • Roll 180 degrees from front to back

 

Additional skills:

  • Introduction to Breaststroke kick
  • Breathing attempt in front crawl
  • Introduction to Dolphin kick
  • Collect a dive stick with aid of the teacher

 

4)Marlins Class (20 meters): 

Time range: 12-36 lessons*

Mandatory skills:

  • Back Crawl legs without aid for 20m
  • Back Crawl arms without aid for 20m
  • Front Crawl legs without aid for 20m
  • Front Crawl arms without aid for 20m
  • Bilateral breathing for 20m (rolling head, not lifting)
  • Breaststroke legs for 10m with aid
  • Tread water using cycling kick for 10s
  • Collect a dive stick without the aid

 

Additional skills:

  • Introduction to Dolphin kick
  • Breaststroke arms
  • Sculling on the back with the hands by the side

 

5)Dolphins Class (25 meters): 

Time range: 12-36 lessons*

Mandatory skills:

  • Full Back Crawl for 25m (continuous arms)
  • Full Front Crawl with breathing for 25m (no catch-up, arm bent in recovery phase)
  • Breaststroke legs for 25m
  • Breaststroke arms for 25m
  • Breaststroke basic timing for 25m (2s glide)
  • Dolphin kick for 15m with hands by the side
  • Tread water using breaststroke kick for 20s
  • Rotate 360 degrees without touching the pool floor

 

Additional skills:

  • Swim through a submerged hoop, collect dive sticks unaided (1.5m)
  • Safe kneeling dive

 

6)Sharks Class (50meters): 

Time range: 12-36 lessons*

Mandatory skills:

  • Full Back Crawl for 50m (sport technique)
  • Full Front Crawl with breathing for 50m (no catch-up, arm bent in recovery phase)
  • Full Breaststroke for 50m with timing
  • Dolphin body action on the front for 25m (stremline)
  • Dolphin body action on the back for 25m (stremline)
  • Butterfly arms for 15m
  • Forward somersault from a standing position

 

Additional skills:

  • Demonstrate a standing dive and glide (if the depth of the swimming pool allowed)

 

7)Orcas Class (100 meters):

Time range: 12-36 lessons*

Mandatory skills:

  • Full Back Crawl for 100m (sport technique)
  • Full Front Crawl with breathing for 100m (sport technique)
  • Full Breaststroke for 100m with timing
  • Full Butterfly for 25m
  • Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke starts
  • Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke turns
  • Tread water for 15s then swim 25m
  • Scull 15m on the front in a forward direction
